Dogs that Make us Drink supports dogs like Butch!

Butch was found as a stray.

He was roaming the streets of Fayette County in Texas. The local animal control picked him up and took him to the shelter. When the shelter contacted his owners, they stated they did not want Butch back and he could go to a new home.

K9s for Warriors rescued Butch.

K9s for Warriors screened Butch at the shelter and pulled him for their program. It quickly became apparent he was a little too intense for service dog work. The team at K9s for Warriors reached out to Category 5 K9 about a pup that might just need a different kind of job.

Butch joined the Category 5 K9 Team!

He spent the next few months working on his fitness and traveling to new places and meeting new people. Butch was exposed to many new things including stores, crowded parks, rubble piles, and farm animals. He also got to try searching for his toy in different environments so we could determine what kind of job he would or would not like.

Butch showed aptitude for conservation work.

Butch's drive and personality made him a good fit for mussel detection. He was adopted from Category 5 K9 and caught transport all the way to Washington state to train with Nine Realms Canine Training.

Butch will become a Mussel Detection Dog!

Butch, now named Fin is currently training hard. Once Fin finishes up training he will join K9 Puddles as the second mussel detection dog working for Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. He will help identify invasive species of mussels on boats to help prevent their spread.
