Petco Love Partnership!
We are excited to announce, Category 5 K9 received a $5,000 grant investment from newly named, Petco Love, to support our life changing work with working dogs in central Texas. The Petco Love investment will change lives by helping rescued dogs find placement in careers like search and rescue, narcotics detection, and explosives detection.
“Petco Love’s generosity will allow us to increase our organizational capacity, helping more rescued dogs find jobs and become heroes for the communities they serve,” said Christy Bormann, Category 5 K9 Director of Operations.
Since 2012, Petco Love has invested more than $16 million to support the life changing work of Helping Heroes – animals that are trained to become heroes who help us – with a special focus on supporting those organizations who train shelter pets to become service, therapy and working animals. This could be service dogs that support our nation’s veterans, search and rescue dogs who help disaster relief efforts, or therapy animals that provide comfort at hospitals or senior living centers.
“Petco Love is proud to support Category 5 K9, as one of nearly 100 organizations receiving a Helping Heroes grant this year,” said Petco Love President, Susanne Kogut. “Petco Love focuses on supporting organizations that find pets in animal shelters and transform them to become pet heroes who improve the lives of others, highlighting the true potential of shelter pets and the impact they bring to their communities.”
Category 5 K9 is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to supporting the search and rescue community and finding jobs for high drive shelter and rescue dogs. Since 2019, Category 5 K9 has screened thousands of dogs from shelters and rescues across the country. They have placed dogs in jobs including narcotics detection, explosives detection, and search and rescue. The Category 5 K9 search team has supported searches in 6 different counties across central Texas.
