The 2021 Wrap Up

Though 2021 was filled with unique challenges, it was also a year of big growth for Category 5 K9. Our friends, volunteers, and supporters made sure we surpassed every goal we set for ourselves. Let’s look at the rescue numbers:

  • 15 dogs were rescued

  • 10 dogs found their new homes

  • 5 dogs went to working placement, including narcotics detection, search and rescue (SAR), and urban search and rescue

  • 6 dogs are continuing with us in the New Year and will be finding homes soon

That’s 15 dogs from shelters, rescues, or rehomed to us from across Texas and even one from Alabama! Most of these dogs made it to us because our awesome supporters recognized their potential and let us know they needed help.

But we aren’t just a rescue…

We also have a Search Team that supports public safety agencies across Texas. This year they:

  • Hosted an International Police Work Dog Association (IPWDA) certification event for 15 SAR K9 teams

  • Offered training events for local SAR K9 teams

  • Built brand new agility equipment for the working and rescue dogs to use to stay fit thanks to Petco Love

  • And they supported public safety agencies across Texas with certified K9 teams

CAT5K9 supported 12 searches in 7 Texas counties, certified 5 new K9 teams, and has 7 live find, and 7 human remains detection teams available.
